Appreciation sent through KIND is a voluntary payment to another person, not the purchase of goods or a service. It is therefore normally final. This policy explains the exceptions and how to ask for a refund.
1. When we refund
- The payment was unauthorised — for example someone else used your card.
- A clear technical error, such as a duplicate charge for the same payment.
- An obvious mistake in the amount, reported quickly and before the money has been paid out to the recipient.
- Where mandatory consumer law in your country requires it.
2. When we normally cannot refund
- Change of mind after the payment has been received by the recipient.
- Dissatisfaction with a service someone provided offline — KIND is not a party to that.
- Requests made long after the payment, once it has been paid out.
3. How to request a refund
Email info@kind.us.org with your receipt number and what happened. We aim to respond within five business days. Please contact us before opening a dispute with your bank — it is usually faster.
4. How a refund is processed
- Refunds are returned to the original payment method by our payment provider. Timing depends on your bank, typically 5–10 business days.
- Full and partial refunds are both possible.
- The KIND platform fee for a refunded payment is refunded with it.
- The receipt is updated to show the refunded amount and date, and the recipient is notified.
- Any referral reward generated by the payment is reversed.
5. Disputes and chargebacks
If a payment is disputed with a bank or card issuer, the amount is withheld while the case runs and the outcome is decided by the card scheme. The receipt records the dispute status. Repeated abuse of the dispute process may lead to account suspension.
6. Recipients
If a payment you received is refunded or charged back after it was included in your balance, the amount is deducted from your balance or offset against future Appreciation.
7. KIND Plus
Subscription refunds are covered separately by the KIND Plus Terms.
